the Netherlands
RESIDENT FACULTY:

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:
The Doctoral Workshop's goal is to bring together promising
Ph.D. students who are working in the area of empirical
management accounting research to develop their
methodological skills and acquire a deeper understanding of
the state-of-the-art concepts in managerial accounting.
Resident faculty will work intensively with the workshop
participants to develop their dissertation research. In
addition, the workshop will help students to establish an
international network of colleagues committed to excellence
in research.
PROGRAM OUTLINE:
The workshop consists of plenary presentations by resident
faculty, individual feedback sessions with students, and
paper or research proposal presentations by students. In
addition, students are invited to participate in Tilburg
University's Fall Camp in Management Accounting on Thursday
(October 9), whose featured speakers include Dennis
Campbell (Harvard), Qi Chen (Duke), David Larcker
(Stanford), and Margaret Abernethy (Melbourne). During
(interactive) class sessions, faculty provide a overview of
and hands-on training in the major research methods in
management accounting (survey, experiments, archival). All
methods are illustrated by discussing recent papers which
have appeared in the major journals in the field and by
showing how each method can help to answer important
unsolved issues in the literature. See our website for the
