Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor

Applicants are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Law (Ref.: 201701008), to commence on January 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Direct tenure may be offered to outstanding candidates for the senior ranks.

ABOUT THE FACULTY OF LAW: The Faculty of Law is the longest established law school in Hong Kong. It plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia, through its various undergraduate, research postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas. It is the largest and oldest law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members drawn from more than 17 jurisdictions worldwide.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The Faculty is now inviting applications from outstanding academics for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in all areas of expertise. Scholars with research and teaching interests in (a) the law of contract, tort, property, trusts, evidence, criminal law, criminal procedure, and related areas of common law, (b) corporate and financial law, international trade law, environmental law, dispute resolution, human rights, or (c) interdisciplinary areas, including law and history, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants for the Professorship should be outstanding academics with an international reputation as leaders in their field. Applicants for Associate Professorship should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Applicants for Assistant Professorship should be academically strong and demonstrate potential for excellence as teachers and researchers.

Applicants should normally have a first degree in Law (eg LLB, BA(Jurisprudence), JD), and an additional postgraduate degree in Law (eg LLM, PhD, D Phil, SJD). Those who do not have an additional postgraduate degree in Law are also encouraged to apply if there is evidence of a strong publication record and relevant experience in teaching, legal practice or the judiciary, or if they possess a postgraduate degree in a non-law discipline. The successful candidates will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Faculty's research profile, by producing high-quality research and actively participating in research communities. They will also be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of teaching on the Faculty's undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes (including the Juris Doctor degree programme). FURTHER INFORMATION: A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
