You are cordially invited to submit papers for presentation at the Conference on Investor Protection, Corporate Governance, and Fraud Prevention to be held at George Mason University on Friday, August 3, 2018. George Mason University is just 15 miles outside of Washington D.C. with easy metro access.

The conference is sponsored by the Investor Protection and Corporate Fraud Research Center housed in the Accounting Area in the School of Business at George Mason University.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Professor Mark DeFond from the University of Southern California will be the keynote speaker of the conference.

TOPICS: The Conference encourages submissions of archival work on the broad topics of Investor Protection, Corporate Governance, and Fraud Detection. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, the following list:
- The role of accounting in investor protection
- The role of governance in detecting and preventing fraud
- The causes and consequences of good governance or lack thereof
- Understanding, identifying, and measuring good governance
- The governance role of external monitors such as auditors and activist shareholders
- Business ethics and corporate social responsibility

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: The deadline for submission is Monday, April 2, 2018. Paper selection will be complete by Monday, April 30, 2018. To submit a paper for consideration, please email a PDF version of the paper (with the title page and the manuscript in a single file) to Long Chen, lchenk@gmu.edu. The selected papers will be made available on the conference website for participants.

REGISTRATION: Registration for the conference is free but we have limited seating. Please e-mail Long Chen if you wish to attend (regardless of whether you have a paper in the program) for administrative arrangements and parking validations.

ABOUT THE ACCOUNTING AREA AT THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS OF GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY: The Accounting Area has diverse research and teaching interests. We offer a vibrant, ambitious and collegial research and teaching community. Research is highly valued in the area and at the school. At present, there are 22 full-time faculty members in the area. The Accounting Area faculty has published in many of the premier accounting journals including Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, and Review of Accounting Studies, as well as other top business journals.
